Hazardous Materials for Hospitals

First Receivers - Awareness Level Training

This 4 hour course meets the OSHA requirements detailed in 29 CFR 1910.120, OSHA Best Practice for Hospitals-Based First Receivers of Victims, and the HRSA State Expert Panel on Decontamination Guidelines.

Intended Audience:

  • ED Personnel

  • Hazardous Materials Response Team

  • Reception Staff

  • UP Personnel

  • Hospital Administrators

Hospital Personnel "First Receivers" Information:

  • Recognize a hazardous material/WMD exposure

  • Understand the risks associated with an exposure

  • Protect themselves and others

  • Isolate the exposure and request assistance

First Receivers - Operations Level Training

This 8 hour course builds on the principles learned during the Awareness Level training. Learners are able to apply the lessons learned through a hands on decontamination process using the equipment found in their own facility.

Hospital Personnel "First Receivers" Information:

  • Recognize the basic hazards associated with hazardous materials/WMD event

  • Select the appropriate personal protective equipment

  • Implement decontamination procedures

  • Identify and use information sources

  • Conduct planning for the response to a hazardous material/WMD event
